SENT is recruiting a Lead Volunteer to assist in a new food security campaign, in collaboration with mRelief. Volunteers will receive a laptop and a stipend for their time.
In July 2025, the passage of H.R. 1 made maintaining SNAP eligibility significantly more challenging for many populations, particularly Able- Bodied Working Adults (ABAWDs). These changes have created an urgent need for solutions that allow people to meet new work requirements in order to remain eligible for SNAP benefits.
In response to the changing needs of the community, SENT, Inc. will recruit a team of up to ten volunteers who are newly subject to ABAWD work requirements due to 2025 legislative changes. These individuals will volunteer their time to conduct peer-to-peer SNAP outreach, assisting other Kansas (who fall into the ABAWD category) with their SNAP applications.
Additionally, volunteers will serve on a Local Peer Council to inform outreach efforts for those who have been impacted by ABAWD work requirement changes. The Peer Council will also support with the planning of a community Town Hall about SNAP and work requirements, lead by SENT’s partner, mRelief.
Volunteers will have a chance to deepen their technological skills by receiving training on and using mRelief’s SNAP outreach tool, Johnnie. The hours spent volunteering with SENT will also help volunteers meet the work hours required to keep their SNAP benefits.
In addition to assisting with SNAP applications, the Lead Volunteer will help guide the rest of the volunteer team in their work. The Lead Volunteer will communicate as needed with SENT staff to ensure all volunteers’ hours are being completed and tracked correctly, and will communicate with mRelief regarding any questions about the SNAP application process or client assistance procedures.
*All necessary training to assist with SNAP applications will be provided by SENT, Inc. and mRelief.
The Lead Volunteer must meet the following criteria:
- The Volunteer was not subject to SNAP work requirements prior to the passage of H.R.1 in July 2025, but now meets the newly expanded definition of “ABAWD” (Able-Bodied Adult Without Dependents) and is now subject to work requirements. This includes:
- Veterans
- Youth who have recently aged out of foster care (between the ages of 18-24)
- Adults with dependent, minor children over the age of 14 (but under the age of 18)
- Adults between the ages of 55 and 64
- Adults experiencing homelessness
The Volunteer needs additional volunteer hours to meet the required average of 80 hours per month of work or volunteer hours to maintain SNAP eligibility.
