Launching in August 2024, the Southside Filling Station will be a neighborhood pantry offering essential grocery items and support to Hi-Crest residents. Through collaboration with organizations like Harvesters, Fellowship Hi-Crest, Shawnee County SNAP-Ed, and local businesses, SENT aims to address food insecurity in Hi-Crest, increase access to nutritious food options, and provide additional resources and support.

More Than Food, A Client-Choice Food Pantry

"Hunger is not a problem. It is an obscenity. How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world."

More Than Just a Pantry: Client Choice Empowerment

The Southside Filling Station isn't your typical food pantry.

We believe in empowering residents with dignity and respect. Through our innovative Client Choice model, you'll be able to select a variety of high-quality food items tailored to your household's needs and preferences once a month.

Not only are we offering a client choice model, but we’re also focusing on connecting clients to other resources their families might need. We have two case managers focusing on the Southside Filling Station and connecting its clients with what they may be eligible for.

Addressing Food Insecurity in Hi-Crest

The results of a recent Health Ratings report for Shawnee County highlight the urgent need for initiatives like the Southside Filling Station. With rising poverty rates, limited access to education and childcare, and financial hardships, it's clear that our community needs support now more than ever.

  • 15% of adults report fair or poor health.
  • Adults reported experiencing poor physical health for an average of 3.4 days in the past month.
  • 8% of babies are born with low birth weights.

These statistics underscore the importance of food security and access to healthy choices. The Southside Filling Station aims to address this critical need in Hi-Crest.
