Summer is coming, and SENT is working to help families beat the heat in the Hi-Crest and surrounding neighborhoods.
Extreme heat affects everyone, but it hits hardest in under-resourced neighborhoods. Many homes in our community are older and lack central air conditioning, leaving families vulnerable to health risks during the hottest months of the year. SENT's Beat the Heat initiative provides affordable access to window A/C units and raises awareness about heat-related inequities.
Why It Matters:
Heat is the deadliest weather-related hazard in the U.S.
Low-income families are disproportionately affected due to housing conditions and limited access to cooling resources
Climate change is making summers hotter and longer, and our most vulnerable neighbors are paying the price

How It Works:
SENT partners with local home improvement stores to purchase window A/C units
Families contribute just $50 for a new A/C unit
Families install the units themselves, cooling at least one room in their home
