At SENT, we believe that transformation happens when people are given both opportunity and support. That’s why we’re so excited to share about a new chapter in our Workforce Development efforts—two initiatives that combine hands-on experience with wraparound care to build pathways of purpose for people reentering the workforce.
Across the nation, individuals coming out of incarceration face significant barriers to stable employment. Studies show that formerly incarcerated people experience unemployment rates exceeding 27%*, and when they do find work, average annual incomes often fall below the poverty line. In Kansas, the Department of Corrections notes that residents who gain a livable-wage job upon release are one-third less likely to return to prison.* These numbers underscore why SENT’s Workforce Development efforts matter so deeply—stable, meaningful employment is one of the most effective tools for breaking cycles of poverty and incarceration.
Working Men of Christ Partnership
This fall, SENT launched a new partnership with Working Men of Christ (WMOC), a Christ-centered ministry that helps men coming out of incarceration rebuild their lives through discipleship, mentorship, and service. Together, we’ve created a structured Workforce Development Program that turns volunteer service into purpose-driven training.
The inaugural WMOC cohort launches on November 4th and will run for one year. We’re piloting the program with a small group of participants and plan to expand as we learn and refine the experience, ultimately serving more people across WMOC homes.
Each participant contributes at least 20 hours of weekly service—more than 400 man-hours each month—supporting SENT’s Southside Filling Station Food Hub, neighborhood housing and beautification projects, and community garden initiatives. In return, they receive access to counseling, substance use therapy, case management, chiropractic care, and food assistance—helping them rebuild from the inside out.
We are also working to raise funds to provide certification courses in a variety of fields—from forklift and skid steer operation to basic computer skills and customer service—that will help participants build their resumes and become more employable in the future.

Community Health Worker Work Release Program
Coming January 2026, SENT will take this vision even further through a partnership with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), Kansas Correctional Industries (KCI), and the Topeka Correctional Facility (TCF). Together, we’ll launch the Community Health Worker (CHW) Work Release Program—a paid internship that provides women nearing release with meaningful work experience and employable skills.
Participants will serve as employees of SENT, gaining real-world experience in community health and wellness. Funded through KDHE, this program will blend professional training with access to case management, housing support, and continued care after release—empowering participants to transition into stable, long-term employment.
Looking Ahead
Both programs represent SENT’s growing commitment to holistic reintegration—meeting people where they are and helping them move toward stability, purpose, and independence. As these workforce programs expand through 2026, we look forward to sharing stories of transformation, partnership, and hope made real through hands-on work.
Together, we’re building not just stronger workers—but stronger communities.
with gratitude and hope,
