TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – SENT is helping neighbors beat the heat this summer.

They’re launching a “Beat the Heat” fundraising campaign. SENT’s Aimee Copp-Hasty visited Eye on NE Kansas to explain how it will work.

Copp-Hasty said the goal is to raise $15,000 to purchase 100 window air conditioners. Families will then be able to apply to purchase the units for only $50.

People who are lower-income, medically fragile, or senior citizens living in under-resourced neighborhoods are eligible to apply for the low-cost air conditioners. Studies show those communities are most vulnerable to heat-related health risks. By charging an affordable price, SENT says people are able to get a needed item to protect their health in a dignified manner.

People can donate to the Beat the Heat Fundraiser at senttopeka.com/beat-the-heat-fundraiser. The same link includes a button to apply for one of the A/C units. People who have questions or need an alternate way to apply should contact SENT at 785-783-2535.
