FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Topeka, Kan. — An estimated $13 billion in food stamp (SNAP) benefits go unclaimed every year. mRelief is a nonprofit organization that exists to change that. Powered by technology, digital marketing, and partnerships with community organizations, mRelief helps people find out if they’re eligible for SNAP benefits and makes it easier for them to apply.
SENT, Inc. is a Topeka-based nonprofit working to help under-resourced communities thrive. For the past year, SENT, Inc. has utilized mRelief’s tools to conduct SNAP outreach and assist Kansans with their SNAP applications.
With new funding from the Kellogg Foundation, mRelief and SENT, Inc. are deepening their collaboration to drive a new level of impact in Kansas.
In July 2025, the passage of H.R. 1 made maintaining SNAP eligibility significantly more challenging for many populations, particularly Able-Bodied Working Adults (ABAWDs). These changes have created an urgent need for solutions that allow people to meet new work requirements in order to remain eligible for SNAP benefits.
In response to the changing needs of the community, SENT, Inc. will recruit a team of up to ten volunteers who are newly subject to ABAWD work requirements due to 2025 legislative changes. These individuals will volunteer their time to conduct peer-to-peer SNAP outreach, assisting other Kansans (who fall into the ABAWD category) with their SNAP applications.
Additionally, volunteers will serve on a Local Peer Council to inform outreach efforts for those who have been impacted by ABAWD work requirement changes. The Peer Council will also support the planning of a community Town Hall about SNAP and work requirements.
Volunteers will have a chance to deepen their technological skills by receiving training on and using mRelief’s SNAP outreach tool, Johnnie. The hours spent volunteering with SENT will also help volunteers meet the work hours required to keep their SNAP benefits. Volunteers will receive a laptop and a stipend for their time.

About mRelief
mRelief is a nonprofit startup working to help people gain access to social services and eat with dignity. The average food stamp applicant needs to fill out an application that is more than 17 pages or sit through a 90-minute phone call, and then submit as many as 10 required documents, all in order to find out if they even qualify for the program. It is their dream to change the status quo of this process and to ensure that anyone can access the safety net without it contributing to the already stressful circumstances of poverty.
