The neighborhoods to the east of Washburn Avenue face significant challenges, and SENT Topeka is steadfast in its commitment to address these issues. Recent statistics show that the average family in these communities spends over $10,000 annually on childcare alone, a staggering 27% of their income. Furthermore, housing costs consume over 50% of their income, highlighting the pressing need for assistance in the region.
SENT Topeka is leading the charge by offering holistic solutions that encompass affordable housing, behavioral health, mental health, and case management support. Your generous contributions to SENT Topeka’s general fund play a crucial role in these initiatives, impacting the lives of countless individuals and families in need.
One of the main objectives of SENT Topeka’s Giving Tuesday campaign is to raise $10,000 by the end of the year. These funds will be instrumental in propelling the organization forward into 2024, enabling SENT Topeka to continue its mission of walking alongside its neighbors, fostering loving relationships, and pursuing strategic development to achieve holistic transformation in Shawnee County.
The impact of SENT Topeka’s work is particularly evident in the Hi-Crest community, where the average African-American child’s projected household income at the age of 35 is a mere $19,000 annually. Similarly, Hispanic children in the same community face a bleak outlook, with projected household incomes of only $22,000 to $26,000 at the age of 35. SENT Topeka aims to defy these statistics, offering a brighter future to the young members of the community.
