Amber’s story is one of immense strength and unwavering hope. As someone who has walked the difficult path of substance use disorder (SUD) herself, Amber is now a steadfast advocate for education and awareness. Her personal experiences, coupled with her role as a mother, fuel her passion for helping others navigate the challenges of addiction.
Amber first encountered substance use as a teenager, battling addiction from ages 17 to 18. Although she was able to stop for a time, grief brought her back to old habits when she lost her grandmother at age 28. “That was the excuse I told myself,” Amber admits. For six years, she struggled, becoming someone her two sons no longer recognized. Ultimately, she turned her life around by changing her environment and leaning heavily on her faith. Now, almost 12 years sober, Amber is dedicated to living a life of purpose for her children and others who may need guidance and support.
The ripple effects of substance use have deeply impacted Amber’s family. She lost her eldest daughter to fentanyl just last year, a loss that devastated her family but also strengthened her resolve to make a difference. Her second daughter continues to struggle, unwilling to seek help. “We try so hard to connect her with resources, but she isn’t ready yet,” Amber shares. “When that day comes, we will be here, ready to support her.”
Amber’s connection with SENT’s SUD services has been a bright spot in her journey. She frequently recommends SENT’s resources to others, saying, “I recommend SENT at least three times a week.” She values the organization’s commitment to helping families like hers find hope and healing. Amber’s ongoing efforts to educate and raise awareness about addiction reflect her belief that change is possible and that everyone deserves a second chance.
Through her own struggles and the pain of losing a child, Amber has found a way to channel her grief into action. “One day, my daughter will realize she is worthy of love and help,” Amber says. Until that day, Amber remains a pillar of hope, ready to support her family and community through the challenges of SUD. Her resilience and dedication to change inspire others to find strength in their own journeys.
