TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – A lack of volunteers has led to the temporary closure of SENT Topeka’s Southside Wellness Clinic and Filling Station.

The organization posted to Facebook Saturday, June 28, stating its roster was hit with an influx of ill employees and that volunteer trainees were furloughed due to federal funding delays.

SENT Topeka’s main source of volunteers stems from a service employment program (SER program) that recruits area seniors.

Due to the funding delay and regulations prohibiting trainees from volunteering during the furlough period, the organization is left shorthanded until the federal government releases the next round of funds.

The southside filling station is closed for the week as SENT works through the issues.

The station serves about 600 families a month.

The United Way of Kaw Valley says other organizations may be affected as well; they couldn’t say which ones, but hope to have further details Tuesday.
