Dear Friends,
At SENT Inc., we often talk about “wraparound support.” But what does that actually mean? Recently, a woman came through our doors carrying an unimaginable stress, fear and emotional pain. After suddenly losing her partner of 10 years, she was trying to navigate grief, homeschool her 12-year-old daughter after an expulsion, and launch a small business to keep her family afloat. On the surface, she said she was “doing okay.” But our team recognized someone standing at a fragile crossroads. With 14 years of sobriety, extreme stress and loss could have easily unraveled years of hard-fought recovery.
Instead of handing her a brochure and sending her on her way, our team walked alongside her. Through SENT’s wraparound model, she was connected to mental health counseling for grief processing, a substance use disorder assessment to help protect her recovery, Parenting for Positive Self-Worth support for navigating challenges with her daughter, and peer support opportunities through Making Sense of Your Worth. At the same time, she was able to shop our pantry, helping relieve immediate financial pressure while she worked to stabilize her family and grow her residential cleaning business using connections from her late husband’s construction network.
This is the heart of SENT’s model. We address the immediate crisis while also helping create long-term stability. Substance use disorders are complex, and recovery can be fragile during seasons of overwhelming stress. That is why dignity, respect, and judgment-free support matter so deeply. Sometimes the most important thing we can offer is a safe place to be honest, practical support for today, new coping tools for tomorrow, and people willing to walk beside someone through the hardest moments of life. This neighbor represents what we often call the “New South.” She is resilient. She is a business owner. She is a dedicated mother fighting to build a healthier future for her family. She walked out of our doors not just with groceries, but with a team.
And that changes everything.
With gratitude,
