SENT Inc. Launches “Beat the Heat” Campaign to Provide Relief for Families in Under-Resourced Neighborhoods
Topeka, KS — With summer temperatures on the rise, SENT Inc. is calling on community members, businesses, and donors to support its annual Beat the Heat initiative—a climate resilience program designed to provide affordable access to air conditioning for families in the Hi-Crest and surrounding neighborhoods of Topeka.
This year’s campaign goal is to raise $10,000, which will help SENT supply window A/C units to households that currently lack adequate cooling. Families can receive a brand-new unit for only $50, offering them a safe and affordable way to cool at least one room of their home during dangerously hot months.
“Heat is not just uncomfortable—it’s a serious public health issue, especially for low-income households, seniors, and those with chronic health conditions,” said Johnathan Sublet, Executive Director of SENT Inc. “Through Beat the Heat, we’re offering more than just A/C units. We’re providing dignity, health, and relief to families who are doing their best with limited resources.”
Many homes in Hi-Crest were built decades ago and lack central air conditioning, leaving residents vulnerable to the rising temperatures driven by climate change. SENT’s program not only brings immediate relief but also sheds light on the environmental disparities that affect under-resourced neighborhoods across the country.
“I’ve seen firsthand how a single window unit can change everything for a family,” shared Jay Rice, SENT’s Housing Foreman. “When you’re working with neighbors who’ve never had air conditioning, it’s not just about comfort—it’s about protecting their health and their hope. This program makes that possible.”
How the Program Works:
- SENT purchases units through partnerships with local home improvement stores.
- Qualified families contribute just $50 toward the cost.
- Families install the units themselves, gaining immediate access to cool, safe air.
How You Can Help:
- Make a donation at www.senttopeka.com/beat-the-heat. A gift of just $200 can sponsor an entire A/C unit.
- Help spread the word about the program on social media or in your organization.
- Encourage families in need to apply for assistance through SENT’s website.
Beat the Heat is part of SENT’s larger mission to foster equity, dignity, and opportunity through community-rooted programs in housing, wellness, and advocacy. With your help, we can build a stronger, more resilient Topeka—one cool home at a time.
