SENT, Inc. Announces Leadership Transition: Johnathan Sublet Named Executive Director, Dr. Beryl New Appointed Board Chair, Christine Caplinger Becomes Vice Chair

Topeka, KS – SENT, Inc., a leading organization dedicated to the holistic transformation of Southeast Topeka neighborhoods, is excited to announce a significant leadership transition, effective November 1, 2024. After serving as Interim Executive Director for the past 18 months, Johnathan Sublet, the organization’s founder, will officially step into the role of Executive Director. Sublet, who has also served as SENT’s Board Chairman, will now assume a non-voting position on the board as Dr. Beryl New transitions into the role of Board Chair, with Christine Caplinger stepping into the role of Vice Chair.

Johnathan Sublet’s new role as Executive Director marks an exciting chapter for SENT, Inc. His passion for the community and commitment to SENT’s mission have shaped the organization since its inception. In this next phase, Sublet’s leadership will be focused on building an operational team that will solidify SENT’s foundation for the future. Among his top priorities is the hiring of an Operations Director, who will serve as SENT’s Chief Internal Officer, helping to implement SENT’s ambitious 2025 Strategic Objectives.

Sublet’s leadership will drive several key initiatives, including:

  • Doubling Mental Health Services: SENT’s mental health department, which already serves 19 Kansas cities and towns, plans to expand its client capacity significantly in 2025. SENT’s whole-person approach to mental health has proven transformative, with clients traveling up to 80 miles for its therapy services.
  • Substance-Use Department Expansion: As SENT’s substance-use department continues to grow, 2025 will bring a new focus on adding Level 2 treatment and group services, enhancing the support available for those struggling with addiction.
  • Strengthening the Family Resource Center: At Avondale East, SENT’s Family Resource Center will continue to expand its comprehensive services, providing critical resources to families in a single, accessible location.
  • Breaking Ground on Fremont Hill West – New Heights: SENT will begin construction on Fremont Hill West Phase 1, a 15-acre single-family housing development named New Heights at Fremont Hill. This development is not only a testament to SENT’s vision of revitalizing Southeast Topeka, but it also honors the legacy of Dr. Beryl New, the incoming Board Chair. The project is set to provide affordable homeownership opportunities for families living across our diverse economic spectrum.

This leadership transition comes at a pivotal time for SENT, as the organization continues to grow in its ability to meet the complex needs of the Hi-Crest neighborhood and beyond. Dr. Beryl New and Christine Caplinger, both respected leaders within the community, bring a wealth of experience to their new roles as Chair and Vice Chair of the Board, respectively. Together with Sublet, they will steer SENT toward greater impact in the coming years.

“We are entering an era of unprecedented opportunity,” says Sublet. “I am honored to lead SENT into this next chapter, alongside Dr. New and Christine Caplinger. Together, we will work to ensure that every family in Southeast Topeka has access to the resources they need to thrive.”

The leadership change will be effective November 1, 2024.
