“We Will Love You Until You Learn to Love Yourself” – David’s Story

After more than 30 years battling addiction, David reached a breaking point. He had tried to get clean on his own—but it wasn’t working. He was desperately searching for something different… for life itself.

“I couldn’t do it on my own.”

He found what he needed in community—through Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA), SMART Recovery, and Celebrate Recovery. These groups offered more than just steps—they offered people who understood.

Building a support system of peers who showed me how to live a life of recovery… Hearing others tell their story gave me hope and made me realize I was not alone.”

With time, David began to rebuild from the inside out. He leaned into spiritual principles, daily disciplines, and a deepening connection to a power greater than himself—God. That foundation, he says, keeps him grounded in the present.

And now, he shares encouragement for those just starting out: Hold On. Pain Ends.

“You don’t have to stay sober the rest of your life right now. You just have to make it through today. We will love you until you learn to love yourself.”

For David, recovery is not a finish line—it’s a daily invitation to live fully, with openness and hope.

“It’s up to us to remain open-minded—to have a new experience in every day.”
