“A Load Lifted Off My Heart” – Carol’s Story

Carol joined Nar-Anon because of a loved one’s addiction. She was full of fear, anger, and despair—and completely without hope for the future. The emotional toll of someone else’s substance use had left her exhausted and unsure where to turn.

But in that first meeting, something shifted. The people in the room didn’t judge—they listened. They understood.

“There is no judgment in a support group—only understanding of your situation. Honest conversations that help and encourage. We share experience, strength, and hope.” ❤️

Nar-Anon gave Carol permission to turn inward and begin her own healing. She began to see that peace and serenity were possible—not through controlling others, but by focusing on what she could change: herself.

“I realized I can be fearless. My higher power wants me to live in peace and serenity. I cannot change anyone—only myself.”

It didn’t happen overnight. But over time, as the concepts took root in her heart, something beautiful happened.

“It’s taken me awhile to understand these concepts, but when I do… a load is lifted off my heart.”

To anyone hesitant about joining a support group for the first time, Carol offers a simple invitation:

“Come. You are welcomed by all.”

Nar-Anon is a safe space for those affected by someone else’s addiction—because recovery doesn’t only belong to the person using. It’s for the whole family.
